Altoona’s River Prairie Route

8 miles / 40 minutes
(paved bike trail, sidewalks, streets)

Altoona's River Prairie Park Bike Path

River Prairie Park

Take the Old Abe Trail alongside the Eau Claire River and historic Banbury Place (the old Uniroyal Tire Factory) and out toward Altoona.

Cross the busy bridge on a protected bike path, and enter into the new River Prairie Neighborhood filled with restaurants, bars, and a well-appointed urban park with a beautiful water feature cascading throughout.

After looping through the neighborhood, find your way to a gorgeous trail that takes you down along the Eau Claire River, and back up through the River’s Edge Neighborhood.

Then it’s along a trail sidewalk, and back along the trail near some of those famous Altoona railroad tracks behind the commercial area of River Prairie, and back around to where you started to return to downtown Eau Claire along the Old Abe Trail again.

How do I follow the digital maps while riding?

It can be helpful to put in one earbud so you can hear the direction cues, while keeping the other ear open for your surroundings. When following along visually, please be careful and stop before looking too hard at your map.
